Rethinking the Social Role of Art Education and Strategies for Applying Community Competencies - Insights from European Community Building Education Discourse -

초록

Addressing contemporary social fragmentation, this study explores art education’s role in restoring social cohesion by analyzing European ‘Community Building Education’ discourses and connecting them to Korea’s 2022 Revised National Arts Curriculum. Theoretically, it utilizes the Council of Europe’s RFCDC and OECD’s Learning Compass 2030 to identify art education as a core mechanism for democratic citizenship and co-agency. Through European cases like ‘Multaka’ and ‘Tate Exchange’, the study verifies art’s expanding role in conflict transformation and community regeneration. Consequently, it reinterprets the 2022 Curriculum’s domains through the lens of ‘relational practice’ and proposes the ‘Community-based Art Inquiry Model (C-AIM)’. Ultimately, this research provides strategies for evolving art education into a public sphere of empathy where students learn to coexist beyond individual self-expression.
