초록

Transmission error(TE) is a major source of noise and vibration in geared systems, particularly in high-reliability applications such as aerospace gear transmissions. This study presents a parametric investigation of the effects of macro-geometry design parameters on the peak-to-peak transmission error (PPTE) of a helical gear pair. The key design parameters, including module, number of teeth, pressure angle, helix angle, face width, and profile shift coefficient, were systematically varied within the practical design ranges. The results show that the PPTE is primarily determined by the total contact ratio rather than by individual design parameters. In particular, the overlap contact ratio is dominant in reducing the mesh stiffness fluctuation and PPTE. Increasing the helix angle and face width reduces the PPTE, whereas increasing the number of teeth does not necessarily reduce the PPTE owing to strong parameter coupling. A trade-off between transmission efficiency and PPTE is also observed, highlighting the need for a balanced design approach.
