This study analyzes the distribution, trend and structural significance of lineaments around the area of the 2024 ML 4.8 Buan earthquake, located in the southwestern part of Korean Peninsula. A total of 103 lineaments were identified, comprising 15 first-grade and 88 second-grade lineaments. The dominant NNE-SSW trend is broadly consistent with the trend of the Hamyeol Fault and other major structural lineaments of the Gongju Fault System. Subordinate NNW-SSE, NW-SE, WNW-ESE, and N-S trends indicate that the study area cannot be explained by a single fault direction, but rather reflects a structurally complex strike-slip fault zone involving subsidiary faults, fracture zones, and local deformation structures. Field investigations identified bedrock faults along or near several mapped lineaments, suggesting a structural origin for some lineaments. However, because no fault-displaced unconsolidated deposits were observed, further geophysical surveys, drilling, trenching, and numerical dating are required to evaluate their Quaternary activity and possible relationship with the 2024 Buan earthquake. The lineament data presented here provide a geomorphic and structural basis for identifying priority areas for future investigations around the Buan earthquake area.
