Development of a Magnetic Indicator for Aircraft Simulators

초록

The objective of this study is to develop and localize a magnetic indicator, which is mounted on the MISC (Miscellaneous) panel of aircraft simulators, for speed brake display. This study focuses on designing a cost-effective and maintainable alternative to expensive imported components while ensuring compatibility with existing simulator systems. The electromagnetic coil was designed to meet a target resistance of 850Ω and a current of 0.033 A under 28 V DC operating conditions. To ensure nighttime visibility and compliance in line with aviation standards, Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) Green A-grade lighting was integrated. The front display film was fabricated using a polycarbonate material with precision silk screen printing. Performance verification was conducted through prototype testing, focusing on the physical dimensions, luminance, symbol transition functionality, and NVIS compatibility. Results: Prototype testing confirmed that all technical requirements were satisfied, including external dimensions, luminance levels, and reliable symbol-switching functions. Specifically, the lighting performance of the NVIS satisfied the rigorous MIL-STD-3009 standards. From an economic perspective, the developed design achieved significant cost reduction, lowering the unit price to approximately one-quarter (25% ) of the original aircraft-grade equipment.
