This research explores the potential health and cosmetic applications of the ethanol extract of Sargassum yendoi (SYE), a brown algae species that has been underexplored in previous studies. Recent studies have highlighted its promising antioxidant and skin-related benefits, suggesting its applicability in the functional food and cosmetic industries. This study evaluated the antioxidant activities and enzyme inhibitory effects of SYE on enzymes associated with skin-whitening and antiaging. The results showed that SYE exhibited significant inhibition of tyrosinase, collagenase, and elastase. Notably, the tyrosinase inhibitory activity of SYE surpassed that of known inhibitors such as kojic acid and arbutin, indicating its strong potential for skin-whitening applications. Furthermore, SYE effectively inhibited collagenase and elastase, suggesting its benefits in improving skin elasticity and reducing wrinkles. It also exhibited high antioxidant activity, highlighting its potential as a natural antioxidant source. These findings suggest the potential of SYE as a valuable resource for developing functional foods and cosmetics. Further research is required to elucidate the bioactive compounds and mechanisms of action.
