現代日本語における副詞「もし」の意味用法 ― 韓国語副詞「만약」「혹시」との対応関係を中心に ―
초록
This paper examines the semantic and functional uses of the Japanese adverb moshi in contemporary Japanese, with particular attention to its correspondence with Korean adverbs. The analysis focuses on its formal characteristics and grammatical meanings and functions. The findings can be summarized as follows: 1. The meaning and function of moshi can be broadly divided into cases where it expresses hypotheticality and cases where it does not. In its most basic hypothetical usage, there appear to be no restrictions on the type of predicates or subsequent clauses with which it co–occurs. However, when moshi conveys an assumption of possibility or reflects the speaker's tentative attitude, its co–occurrence tends to be fixed to specific forms, and the types of following clauses are limited. Particularly, when used as a prefatory expression in request sentences as a form of politeness, the grammatical restrictions are significant, and the contexts of use are distinctive. 2. The correspondence between moshi and Korean adverbs also differs when moshi no longer expresses hypotheticality. In particular, through a comparison with hoksi (혹시), which has not been sufficiently examined in previous studies, commonalities can be observed in the semantic shift of hypothetical adverbs toward politeness–related expressions.
