- Abstract
- This study addresses the application of a physics-based manoeuvering mathematical model that can be used to assess ship maneuverability. In research related to ship maneuvering, this study focuses on the physics-based maneuvering mathematical model proposed by Karasuno et al. (1991, 1992). Several series of analysis by using the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) were conducted for large drift manoeuvring motions, and the coefficients constituting the Karasuno model were obtained from the results. This study verifies whether the forces and moments reconstructed using these coefficients accurately represent the forces and moments acting on the ship hull during the large drift motions. Additionally, a key advantage of the Karasuno model is highlighted: it uses only the coefficients obtained from the forces and moments acting on the hull during the motions to estimate the forces and moments acting on the hull during the rotating motions with drift angle. This verification was conducted by comparing the forces and moments acting on the hull during the rotating motions with the drift angle, obtained from CFD analysis, with those estimated by the Karasuno model, confirming the model’s applicability.
