| dc.description.abstract | This study examined the feeding habits of the spearnose grenadier Coelorinchus multispinulosus collected from the South Sea of Korea. A total of 229 individuals ranging from 4.0 to 29.4 cm in total length were sampled using bottom trawl nets between February and October in 2023. Stomach content analysis revealed that amphipods were the most dominant prey group, accounting for 81.7% of the index of relative importance, followed by Caridea (17.6%). Seasonal variations in diet composition showed that amphipods were highly dominant in spring and summer, whereas shrimps and euphausiids were predominant in autumn and winter, respectively. An ontogenetic dietary shift was observed: amphipods were the principal prey for individuals smaller than 20.0 cm, whereas shrimp became dominant in larger individuals (≥20.0 cm). Although no significant difference in the number of prey items per stomach was detected among the size classes (P>0.05), the mean prey weight increased significantly with growth (P<0.05). Twoway PERMANOVA results indicated significant seasonal differences in diet composition (P<0.05), but not among size classes. | - |
