경상 방언 ‘쌔리’의 담화표지화에 대한 연구

Abstract

This study examined the semantic and syntactic functional expansion of the verb ‘ssaerida’ and its conjugated form ‘ssaeri’, which are primarily used in the Gyeongsang dialect. Compared to the standard Korean verb ‘ttaerida’, the dialectal verb ‘ssaerida’ has a narrower scope of semantic expansion into peripheral meanings. However, recently its lexical meaning has been bleached, allowing it to combine with various nouns and function actively as a functional verb. Moreover, in some examples, ‘ssaerida’ is more grammatical than the standard Korean ‘ttaerida’. Additionally, ‘ssaeri’, originally used as a conjugated form of ‘ssaerida’, functions when placed before a verb to emphasize the meaning of the following verb. This modifying function has further intensified, allowing ‘ssaeri’ to be used like a modal adverb revealing the speaker's attitude or perception towards a sentence or utterance. Furthermore, this usage expands even more. When combined with discourse markers like ‘goma, ma’, ‘ssaeri’ also appears to function as a discourse marker itself. When used as a discourse marker, it does not combine with other verbs. Above all, both 'ssaerida' and discourse marker 'ssaeri', are actively used nationwide beyond the regional boundaries of dialect.
