- Abstract
- This study investigates the hardening mechanism of magnesium alloys AZ31B and E-form under compression-tension loading histories. Mechanical tests and EBSD analyses were conducted to clarify the effect of difference in crystallographic texture on anisotropic hardening behavior. At 4% compression, AZ31B exhibited approximately 1.7 times higher twin fraction than E-form due to its stronger basal texture. In the compression-tension tests, AZ31B showed significantly higher flow stress during the second tension compared with monotonic tension, and the hardening ratio increased linearly with the plastic work during compression. In contrast, E-form exhibited negligible hardening despite a larger residual twin fraction. These results demonstrate that the additional hardening in AZ31B is not governed by residual twin fraction but rather by irreversible GND accumulation generated during twinning-detwinning cycles.
