Determinants of the Quality of Life Among Nepalese Migrant Workers in Korea

Abstract

This study examines the determinants of quality of life (QoL) among Nepalese migrant workers in Korea using data from 221 respondents. Six variables—psychological well-being, material conditions, physical health, social support, monthly income, and duration of stay—were analyzed. Regression results show psychological well-being as the strongest predictor of QoL, followed by material conditions, income, and length of stay. Social support and health had positive but insignificant effects. The study contributes to migration research by integrating subjective and objective dimensions of QoL in the under-researched context of Nepalese labor migrants. Findings highlight the importance of mental health and economic stability for migrant well-being. Policy directions include expanding culturally sensitive mental health services, ensuring fair wages and safe housing, and supporting long-term settlement through language education and visa stability. Korean labor authorities should also strengthen the Employment Permit System (EPS), improve housing conditions, and expand access to welfare programs. These measures offer concrete pathways to enhance the integration and well-being of Nepalese workers in Korea.
