dc.description.abstractIn transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation simulation studies, CT (Computed Tomography) images or MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) are required. However, obtaining CT data is challenging due to the risks asso- ciated with radiation exposure. This study aims to verify the utility of acoustic pressure models created using Syn- thetic CT (sCT) to determine if they can be an alternative to CT in ultrasound simulations. We obtained CT and MRI from a public dataset to create sCT. A focused ultrasound simulation was performed using a 0.25 MHz single-element transducer. When using the CT model as a reference, the sCT model demonstrated less error and variation in max- imum acoustic pressure than the MRI model. Regarding focal length, the error range for the sCT model was nearly half that of the MRI model. Unlike maximum acoustic pressure, the focal region had a larger error range: 47.1% for the sCT model and 41% for the MRI model. The similarity of maximum acoustic pressure and focal distance between sCT and CT compared to MRI suggests that sCT can be used as a substitute for CT. Future research should consider various frequencies in simulations and conduct them in three dimensions to improve simulation accuracy and increase the amount of data to enable further validation through more accurate statistics.-
