- Abstract
- This study proposes a tool selection method for roughing operations on duplex stainless steel, employing a specific cutting sound level minimization model.
Three distinct roughing tools are examined to assess the impact of tool design on noise levels, productivity, and tool longevity. Experimental results indicate that the square insert cutter achieved the lowest specific cutting sound level, demonstrating superior performance in terms of stability, productivity, and durability. These findings validate the use of the proposed cutting sound level minimization model as a reliable guide for selecting roughing tools in duplex machining. Further research is required to generalize these findings because these results are limited to specific experimental conditions and likely vary with different materials or processes.
