- Abstract
- Submarine cables are exposed to various marine environments over extended periods, and repetitive lateral loads from waves and ocean currents can lead to bending damage. To prevent failure due to excessive bending, a Bend Restrictor is used on the exterior of the submarine cable, making it crucial to accurately assess its bending behavior and performance. This study employs a numerical analytical method to examine the bending behavior and structural performance of the Bend Restrictor. The structural performance of the Bend Restrictor was evaluated by considering rotational loads related to the target bending moment (15.0 kN<middle dot>m) and the maximum bending moment (43.1 kN<middle dot>m). Additionally, the study investigated whether the Minimum Bending Radius (MBR) was met at a bending moment of 15 kN<middle dot>m. The results confirmed that the structural performance of the Bend Restrictor was adequately secured in relation to the bending moment.
