- Abstract
- 이 글은 1960년대 초 영국의 유럽경제공동체(EEC) 가입을 위한 1차 시도와 그 실패를 주제로 다룬다. 초창기 유럽통합 과정에 참여하기를 거부했던 영국은 1961년 8월 EEC 가입신청서를 브뤼셀에 제출했고, 영국과 EEC 국가들의 가입 협상은 1963년 1월 드골의 거부로 인해 무산되었다. 이 글은 유럽통합 초창기 대륙 국가들의 초대에도 불구하고 유럽통합 과정의 참여를 거부했던 영국이 어떠한 이유로 유럽공동체의 문을 두드리는 방향 전환을 결정할 수밖에 없었는가 그리고 EEC 가입이라는 영국의 과감한 결정이 어떻게 실패하게 되었는가의 물음들을 구체적으로 규명할 것이다.
