| dc.description.abstract | This study investigates the impact of AI-based learning tools, ChatGPT and ZEP Quiz, on vocabulary acquisition and reading comprehension in a university-level English reading course. This study employed a single-group pretest-posttest design involving 58 students from diverse academic disciplines. Participants engaged in a 13-week intervention using ChatGPT for personalized vocabulary exercises and contextual learning, while ZEP Quiz provided a gamified environment that fostered repetitive practice and competitive engagement. The pretest and posttest scores revealed a statistically significant improvement in vocabulary and reading comprehension. In addition, survey responses indicated that students experienced increased interest, confidence, and motivation in their learning process. ChatGPT enabled students to grasp the contextual use of words, while ZEP Quiz promoted retention and practical application through participatory learning activities. These findings suggest that AI-based tools can promote gains in vocabulary acquisition and academic performance, as well as enhance affective learning outcomes, offering an effective approach to vocabulary acquisition and student engagement in language learning. | - |
