| dc.description.abstract | This study examines the impact of indoor wooden remodeling on air quality and energy consumption in aging buildings. Indoor air quality was evaluated based on the Ministry of Environment’s Indoor Air Quality Management Act, measuring parameters such as total volatile organic compounds (TVOC, AVOC, BVOC), formaldehyde (HCHO), total airborne bacteria (TAB), and particulate matter (PM2.5). Results showed a significant increase in BVOC and PM2.5 levels after remodeling, attributed to the residual effects of wood materials. While TVOC levels decreased four weeks post-remodeling in Cheonan, they increased in Jinju due to inadequate ventilation, highlighting the need for regular cleaning and ventilation after construction. Building energy consumption was analyzed using DesignBuilder, comparing different levels of wood application (7.4%, 100%) with no remodeling. Energy savings were observed, with up to a 4.4% reduction in energy use for fully remodeled buildings, while the actual remodel yielded a 1.3% reduction. The study concludes that wooden remodeling not only enhances indoor air quality but also improves energy efficiency, demonstrating wood’s potential as a sustainable building material for future remodeling. | - |
