- Abstract
- Fanconi anemia (FA) is a rare genetic disease associated with abnormalities such as bone marrow failure, growth delay, and susceptibility to cancer. Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the most common solid cancer among FA patients; indeed, the incidence is >500-fold higher than that in the general population. HNSCC in FA patients has a different etiology, clinical course, and prognosis from that in the general population. Here, we describe a case of buccal cancer in a patient with FA, and report treatment details and challenges, along with a literature review.
