dc.description.abstractAgroforestry innovations on degraded lands have been prioritized for promoting environmental sustainability, advancing food and fodder security, and achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Although neglected in scientific research and development, bamboo-based agroforestry has traditionally been managed on family farms because of their great socioeconomic values in rural lives especially in Asia. Recently, there has been increasing interest in their role in soil health improvement, biomass production, and climate change mitigation. However, our knowledge on the contribution of bamboo-based agroforestry for enhancing provisioning ecosystem services is very limited. The aim of this chapter is to compile existing information on social, economic, and ecological implications of bamboo-based agroforestry with an aim to create and advance our understanding on the role of bamboo in enhancing ecosystem services. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.-
