Abstract
This study was conducted with 1,788 elderly people aged 65 and over who visited the National Fitness Award Center in 2015 and 2017. The purpose of this study was to build up the sustainable system of senior fitness management and follow up the elderly’s fitness changes. Using measurement data obtained from the survey of national physical fitness, this study analyzed the elderly’s body composition and physical fitness variables and compared and analyzed variables between senior fitness clusters(high, mid, and low) for the scientific evaluation of Korean elderly’s physical levels. Finally, the following conclusions were drawn. Height, weight, and BMI were not significantly different in the analysis of the elderly’s body composition variables, However, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance were significantly different in the analysis of physical fitness variables. Muscle strength, muscle endurance, and cardiovascular endurance were significantly different in the comparison and analysis of variables between senior fitness clusters(high, mid, and low). Flexibility was significantly different in the high and mid groups but not significantly different in the low group. Based on the findings, body composition was not changed but health-related physical fitness showed positive changes in the fitness level of the total group and between clusters in the elderly. Therefore, national and society system is necessary to educate and continuously provide exercise programs to improve physical fitness through regular physical activity in the elderly.
