The exceptional design and properties of nanocomposite substances make it studied worldwide. Metal-based, ceramic-based, and polymer-based nanocomposites are the three main sets based on the purpose of the substrate used. The selection of filler material is a crucial stage since it accounts for the advancement in the properties of resulting nanocomposites. Owing to the fascinating characteristics like oxidation resistance, good thermal conductivity, inertness toward chemicals, more energy band gap, thermal stability, and substantial mechanical properties of boron nitride (BN), BN-based resources have gained noteworthy consideration in industrial as well as academic sectors. The major limitations of the formation of nanocomposites are poor dispersion and improper attachment to the polymer matrix. This issue would be overcome through physical/chemical functionalization of the boron nitride surface, which would not only give better dispersion but also improve the interaction of functionalized boron nitride (f-BN) with polymer matrix. Modifying the properties of the polymer nanocomposites by incorporating f-BN as a filler into the polymer is a well-engrained approach. This chapter starts with the physical qualities and characteristics of the BN followed by an overview of the uniqueness of innumerable polymer nanocomposites containing BN. The formation and characteristics of f-boron nitride as well as its nanocomposites with different polymers are described in this chapter. Detailed information regarding morphology and properties of several f-BN incorporated polymeric nanocomposites is reported as well. Various types of f-boron nitride-based polymeric nanomaterial are also included in brief. The possible applications of f-BN-based nanocomposites in various fields are also discussed. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.-
