Abstract
Locally resonant metamaterials composed of periodic arrays of resonators form a band gap that blocks the propagation of incident waves in the resonant -frequency band of the resonator. Because the band gap exhibits superior vibration -reduction performance in the target frequency band, previous studies focused on solving the noise problem of industrial structures or applying it to nondestructive tests. Many of these studies focused on the formation of a single band gap with a single resonator. In this study, we aimed to form a multi -band gap to overcome the narrow bandwidth of the single band gap. The proposed multi -locally resonant metamaterial integrates two resonators into a single unit structure and has a broad bandwidth with superior vibration -reduction performance. In this study, a locally resonant metamaterial was designed to form a broad band gap in the low -frequency band with light weight by combining steel and plastic. Furthermore, the band gap of the multi -locally resonant metamaterial was verified numerically and experimentally.
