North and South presents various groups that either confront or cooperate with each other due to differences in terms of interests, regions, classes, gender, ideology, and religion. Each character belongs to more than one group such as northern industrialists versus southern parsons, factory owners versus workers, men versus women, paternalists versus liberals, atheists versus theists, city dwellers versus country folk, and rulers versus subjects. In this article, I use Hardt’s and Negri’s concept of the multitude to explore these groups. The multitude refers to any groups of individuals that take concerted action together. The purpose of this article is to analyze various multitudes in North and South and the attributes of individuals that belong to or deviate from these groups.-
