Abstract
In the construction of reinforced concrete buildings, the joining of rebars is essential, and its significanceincreases as the structures being built become more complex. Several methods of rebar joining exist. Recently, a one-touch type rebar coupler, a type of mechanical joint, has been widely used owing to itsvarious advantages. The housing of the one-touch type rebar coupler primarily employs SCM440. To meet theperformance requirements of mechanical joining, an appropriate heat treatment is necessary. In this study,tensile tests were conducted on SCM440 specimens before and after heat treatment to understand themechanical properties of the materials used in rebar couplers. The heat treatment was applied to enhance thestrength and toughness of SCM440 via quenching and tempering (QT). The analysis of the tensile test resultsconfirmed a significant improvement in the mechanical properties of SCM440.
