Abstract
The identity of LGBTQ people is no longer considered a mental disorder but one of the various gender identities. Based on psychotherapy, no attempt should be made to change one’s gender or sexual identity, as such an attempt may deteriorate one’s mental health. Gender or sexual minorities encounter a lot of negative experiences due to social hatred and stigma, which is sometimes internalized. Psychotherapists must be well aware of the characteristics of gender or sexual minorities and the social context and situation they are in and offer them treatment based on an affirmative attitude. In addition, the therapist must understand the various issues related to gender or sexual identity, observe the patient, and offer treatment.
