| dc.description.abstract | In this paper, we hypothesize that Jiao(交) and Yao(爻) have etymological relationships. In order to prove the hypothesis, we presented evidence in two aspects: graphonomy and linguistics. In terms of graphonomy, Yao(爻) is an intersection of abstract handwriting. That is meant to be crossed. The derivation and differentiation of meaning show that Jiao(交) is derived from Yao(爻). It was demonstrated through the twisted phenomenon of Wu(五) and the changing of to in the Zhanguowenzi(戰國文字). In terms of linguistics, there is a situation in which a single letter is differentiated into two or more letters, with its shape, pronunciation, and meaning differentiated. The differentiation of pronunciation and meaning is a phenomenon reflected in the letters. To prove this, the relationship between Jiao(交) and Yao(爻) was demonstrated through differentiation of pronunciation and meaning, showing a situation in which one letter, such as Qing(卿)/Xiang(鄉), Huo(或)/Guo(國), Jian(間)/Xian(閒), Ming(命)/Ling(令), Shi(史)/Li(吏)/Shi(事), Lao(老)/Kao(考), is differentiated into two or more letters. It is hypothesized that Jiao(交) and Yao(爻) have the same etymology in ancient characters and proved them in two respects: graphonomy and linguistics. There is still something lacking in my proof. I ask for advice from scholars in various fields. The shortfall will be complemented by the discovery of more data. | - |
