This study aims to design and manufacture a two- and three-way versatile coat for modern women by utilizing the elements of traditional Korean Jang-ot. As a research method, First, on the basis of previous studies, the concept and classification of transformable design were considered. Second, artifacts and images related to Jang-ot were collected. Third, a transformable design expression method applied to Jang-ot was derived, and formative elements were analyzed. Fourth, a coat design that can be altered through simple manipulation or orientation was created. Finally, design preferences were evaluated for female consumers in their 20s and 30s. As a result of the study, a total of four coats were created. Work 1 tranforms into a multilayered expression that covers the arms as the sleeves becomes a cape. Work 2 is a reversible design with the same composition on the exterior and interior, with the exception of the collar attachment. Work 3 is a trench coat with detachable sleeves that can be worn as a vest. Work 4 is a coat with hanging sleeves that uses a cape coat's zipper and can be worn as a hooded vest by simply switching the sleeves to the opposite direction. In the design evaluation, the coat was preferred in the order of Works 4, 3, 2, and 1. In addition, respondents in their 20s and 30s admired the coat for its practicality and modernity, and indicated that they would coordinate with their daily ensembles.-
