| dc.description.abstract | The main industrial themes of automobiles in recent years are fuel efficiency and environmental regulations. European countries have imposed restrictions on emissions and steadily tightened standards. For this reason, theautomobile industry is conducting research on mass reduction. The safety of the steering system of anautomobile is important for preventing accidents. For this reason, a safety review is essential for research onmass reduction of steering devices. In this article, a structural analysis of a hollow intermediate shaft used in anautomobile steering system is presented. The structural analysis results for a solid intermediate shaft arecompared with those for a hollow intermediate shaft. A structural analysis of the torque (260 N·m) applied whensteering the intermediate shaft was conducted to ensure the safety rate of the shaft and verify the stability of thematerial. Through experiments, the reliability of the analysis results of the hollow intermediate shaft wasincreased. The mass reduction was verified through 3D modeling and mass measurement of the shaft. Theintermediate shaft satisfies the reference strength, even with a hollow shape, and effectively reduces the mass. | - |
