- Abstract
- Fiber dust generated during FRP drilling causes skin pain and accumulates in the lungs of the operators. A circular exit burr that requires additional removal occurs when drilling the FRP using a flat end mill. Effective dust suction and deburring methods are required in the FRP drilling process to improve the health and productivity of workers. In this study, the effect of vacuum suction on the removal of fiber dust and circular exit burrs when drilling glass and carbon fiber reinforced plastic with a flat end mill was investigated. The 21 kPa vacuum suction reduced the burr factor to 4.3% from 82.9% without it. However, it was impossible to reduce exit delamination because of the small backup force. The circular exit burr could be removed while removing the fiber dust with 17% energy by contacting the inlet with the FRP surface to suck in air.
