고려전기 東界 북부 지역 州鎭의 설치 과정

Abstract

In this article, the formation of the Ju-jin(州鎭：‘Areal Defense Points’) units inside the Dong-gye(東界：‘Eastern Frontier’) region is examined, in terms of the timetable of their installations, and also each of their locations. The Ju-jin units inside the Dong-gye region were only installed above the Deung-ju(登州) area, and the areas below such as Yong-ju(湧州) and others were operated based upon the Gun/Hyeon system inherited from the Silla dynasty’s local administration. The Goryeo government continued with its pioneering efforts along the ‘Main road line’ that stretched from south to north. It also expanded its efforts toward the eastern coastline and also westward into the inland areas, installing Ju-jin units along the way. Initially these Ju-jin units were installed as mere Jin(鎭) units, yet the units in the vicinity of the ‘Main road line’ and the ‘Grand Fortress’ were transformed into Ju(州) units(thus “Ju-jin” units). During the reign of king Gwangjong, the pioneering efforts reached the Hwa-ju(和州) area, and during the reign of king Jeongjong, the Jeong-ju(定州) Ju-jin unit and others were installed while the Grand Fortress was being built. And during the reign of king Yejong, in response to the conditions in the region, the Ye-ju(豫州) unit was installed between Jeong-ju and Hwa-ju units, completing the Dong-gye region network.
