Abstract

Chapiteau-show is 4 short stories titled "Love", "Friendship", "Respect" and "Cooperation". All 4 parts take place in is a small resort town by Black Sea, where characters of each chapter are facing the turning moments of their life. And while they are going through their personal dramas a surreal show is taking over the city, bringing all of them together in the center of on epic performance. One character is agonizing in a love affair that has gone wrong, another suffers from the lack of understanding from friends, the third tries to win his father's respect, and the main character of the fourth is trying hard to figure out ways to cooperate with his partners. As in life, while everyone sees themselves as the center of their own drama, characters of "Chapiteau-show" are Heroes in their own story and only minor, hardly noticed stuntmen other people's lives. Stories are full of tragic pathos - when one deals with his personal catastrophe, from outside it can seem ridiculous. The more serious the character is, the more comic he seems to the others. Love, Friendship, Respect, Cooperation - colours in which the life's walls are pointed. Going from one strip to another we often do not notice that we run in circles, we live the same situations, we say the same words. And sometimes we find it hard to notice the border between what is happening "in fact" and a chapiteau-show. It is a movie-riddle, a movie-joke, a movie-labyrinth. All the characters in this film are beautiful losers. Their views on life are unique, unorthodox bordering on strange and irrational. Their naivety, childish inability to deal with the complexity of human relationships leads puts them into absurd situations. And of course they manage and win in the end.
