Abstract

Jisimdo is known as one of the most attractive places in Korea. It has a beautiful seascape and well preserved environmental resources. Though Jisimdo is famous for its environmental or geographical characteristics, a semantic approach is needed in order to understand its intrinsic values. This study aims to investigate the characteristics and literal images of Jisim-island using Social Network Analysis(SNA), which is a content analysis methodology. These days the Social Network Analysis is the most popular, rigorous and firm methodology for analyzing, examining and revising contexts. The lexical meaning of some concepts reflect paradigms across generations that deals with mutual agreement. Thus, content analysis based on the words, vocabulary and key-words should be validated. The process of this study follows several steps. First, information collecting and refining the source of specified objects and frequency analysis based on accumulated data must be completed. Next, a data matrix that consists essential and representative words should be made, along with a network diagram with automated statistical programs. The findings of the SNA of Jisimdo show that the images or features are focused on blue tourism that covers its own natural environment. Overall mass media, both the central and local, present Jisim-island as one of the most valuable place to visiting. However, recently articles tend to offset the benefits by publishing negative issues and put less emphasis on confronted issues like military district redemption. Based on the this study, it is important that we enhanced the image of Jisimdo as a sustainable development region, with its own origin and characteristic. Also, integration with public relation management is needed to deliver efficient and effective results.
