This study focuses on 325 begetmo-decorative embroidery attached to both sides of a pillow-out of 543 modern pillow artifacts gifted by Kim Dae Hwan at Dankook University Seokjuseon Memorial Museum. According to the analys is of the 325 embroidery designs, 53.5% of the designs were peony patterns with 174 pieces, being the majority; 13.2% were lotus patterns with 43 pieces; 12% were apricot flower patterns with 39 pieces; and 6.8% were chrysanthemum patterns with 22 pieces. These four flower patterns account for 85.5%(278 pieces), which shows that they are the most popular flower patterns on begetmo in modern times. First, peony patterns, which had the greatest frequency, have also the diversity of five different types. Among those five, there were 129, the greatest number of pieces, with a fully blossomed single peony design. Second, lotus patterns can be classified into three types. Of these, the most popular design, which had 22 pieces, features a fully blossomed lotus in the center with a pair of small ducks around. Third, apricot flower patterns were found in five distinct types. Of these, 24 pieces with a combination of gilsang characters and a plum tree or flower, were the majority. Fourth, chrysanthemum patterns are divided into three types, each of which is almost equally prevalent. Although much scarcer than the four flower patterns mentioned above, other patterns included pink, rose, cockscomb, day lily and platycodon. A commonality between these types of flowers is that they are easily found in our surroundings. These examples imply that rather than for traditional elements such as luck and Confucianism, those flowers were chosen because of their beauty and ornateness. As begetmo became more commercialized in modern times, more variety of embroidery designs were created for merchandising, which reflects the artists’ taste and sensibility beyond traditional prototypes.-
