- Abstract
- In a company where each employee uses his or her own individual personal computer, the issue of ‘distributed’ or ‘centralized’ control of digital content is important from viewpoints of information management. As a centralized control of digital content, EDMS system has been a typical alternative. Howeve, it has not been effective frequently for central control of the whole digital content in an organization. A main reason of this matter found in a case company is for users to create and store the digital content as files with their own personal computers and not to move them to the central storage device. To overcome this problem, an approach of storage virtualization with virtual folder is introduced, which can help users to save their digital content directly to the central storage device without inconvenience. Adding the capacity of restricting usage of individual computer, users unavoidably and conveniently store and retrieve digital contents with the central storage device. Main concept of design and its implementation for the virtual folder are shown and the results of utilizing the system are explained with a case of application.
