The Korean Adaptation of the Short Form of the Adult Temperament Questionnaire (ATQ)

Abstract

This study developed and validated a Korean version of the Adult Temperament Questionnaire short form (ATQ: Evans & Rothbart, 2007). The Korean version was elaborated following adaptation and translation procedures that have been precisely described. The main survey was conducted with students at two universities in South Korea from May 15 to September 25, 2017. Participants were told about the research and completed the questionnaire only if they agreed to participate by written consent. The ATQ, Big Five Inventory, and Adult Temperament Scale (EAS) were administered to 540 college students. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, four factors of adult temperament (negative emotion, sensitivity, intentional control, extroversion) were verified in Korea. The ATQ presents acceptable internal consistency and convergent validity (Big Five and EAS). Results of the present study are compared with previous research and limitations of the study are discussed.
